How to add EU AI labels to video

Shotlabel helps editors review AI disclosure across multiple films and export visible labels using the European Commission’s pre-made artwork.

A practical workflow

  1. Gather production records explaining where generative AI created or changed content.
  2. Import your assets together. Detect cuts and inspect similar shot groups across edits.
  3. Review each shot against those records. Mark Generated, Modified or No label and keep a note explaining the decision.
  4. Choose a readable label variant, size and placement. Review its contrast and duration in context.
  5. Choose your encoding presets, export, and inspect the delivered files. Keep the review record with the project.

What Article 50 covers

Article 50(4) of the EU AI Act includes disclosure obligations for deployers of AI systems generating or manipulating deepfakes. Evidently artistic, creative, satirical, fictional and similar works have an adapted disclosure approach that must not hamper display or enjoyment. The actual obligation depends on the content and use; every AI-assisted edit is not automatically a deepfake.

Article 50(2) separately addresses provider duties for machine-readable marking of synthetic outputs. A visible icon or an exported CSV is not a substitute for those duties. Shotlabel does not generate C2PA credentials.

Official artwork and transparency

The Commission offers optional icons for generated and modified content. Shotlabel uses the original artwork, preserves transparent edges, and offers black, white and 50% variants. The app adds no thick black rectangle or outline. Choose contrast for the image and check the final encoding, including any alpha channel.

Human decisions, local assistance

A vision model cannot prove whether a shot was created with AI. Shotlabel’s included local assistant describes imagery and suggests provenance questions and boundary checks. It leaves disclosure decisions with the editor.
